Philippines signs MOU with TYM Corp. to boost farm mechanization
The Philippines is taking a step forward in its farm modernization initiatives through an agreement with South Korean agricultural equipment manufacturer TYM Corp., focusing on personnel training and investment.
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) said on Thursday, Oct. 2, that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with TYM Corp. to establish a framework for cooperation.
The agreement will primarily focus on advanced technical training and strategic collaboration to support the industrial development of the local agriculture sector.
PHilMech Director IV Dionisio Alvindia said the partnership with TYM Corp. is a major step in advancing the government’s modernization efforts to boost agriculture.
“The knowledge that TYM Corp. will impart to PHilMech will pave the way for the agency to establish an academy that will level up the knowledge of Filipinos in farm mechanization and postharvest,” said Alvindia in a statement.
Under the MOU, TYM Corp. shall contribute to the development of the future PHilMech Academy on Postharvest and Mechanization.
TYM Corp., which has operations in more than 40 countries, will oversee the advanced technical training of PHilMech engineers through regular programs.
Over the next five years, the company will train the engineers alongside the development of instructors and training materials, as well as delivery of training sessions.
TYM Corp. shall also invite “selected outstanding Filipino trainees” to South Korea for further specialized training. The additional training will be under the TYM Certified Engineer Program, which aims to develop industry technical experts.
Meanwhile, PHilMech personnel who will be trained by TYM Corp. shall subsequently re-train and educate field technicians and tractor users to promote proper use and maintenance of farm tractors.
The primary objective of this exercise is to train beneficiaries of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), specifically farmers who are recipients of modern agricultural machinery.
FIT Corea Trading Philippines Inc., as the authorized local representative of TYM Corp. in the country, will provide support to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Furthermore, TYM Corp. plans to invest in the country through the expansion of its integrated TYM Parts and Service Center.
This facility is expected to strengthen after-sales service, improve the availability of spare parts, and build local technical skills capabilities for the company’s products.
TYM Corp. manufactures a range of agricultural machinery, including tractors, combine harvesters, cultivators, rice transplanters, and diesel engines.
Under the MOU, the South Korean firm has committed to exploring opportunities to broaden its role in the local value chain for farm equipment.
