The city government of Pasay conducted a two-day training program on Tourism Integrates, Supports, and Minds Women’s Rights and Safety (TourISM WoRCS) as part of its celebration of World Tourism Month, held from Sept. 20 to 30.
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said a total of 100 individuals participated in the training program, including tourism stakeholders, barangay officials, the personnel of Pasay City Welfare and Development Department and the Pasay City Police.
Rubiano said Ginno Rey Corral, End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism (ECPAT)-Philippines program officer, led a discussion on women’s rights and sexual exploitation of children in tourism.
“This is such an important principle that we have to share with everyone. Dahil a big part of what we want to showcase to the world is our people, and in doing so, we have to be discerning, protective, and purposeful. Dahil ang mga kababaihan at kabataan ay dapat inaalagaan (Women and children need to be protected). And to have this emphasized by our tourism industry is a great reminder that we are indeed in the right, empowering, modern, and inclusive track,” Rubiano said.
