ZAMBOANGA CITY – Properties worth P9 million were destroyed in a three-hour fire in Barangay Tetuan, this city, before dawn Thursday.
Supt. Leo Pioquinto, Zamboanga City Fire District marshal, said the fire broke out at 12:31 a.m. on Estrada St.
“Fourteen houses were affected, of which 10 were totally damaged while the other four were partially destroyed,” Pioquinto said.
The fire reached second alarm and put out at 3:21 a.m.
Pioquinto said they have yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) reported that 23 families, or 78 individuals, were affected by the fire.
CSWDO chief Socorro Rojas said displaced families are temporarily sheltered at the gymnasium of Tetuan Central School.
Mayor Khymer Olaso has directed Rojas and the Tetuan Barangay Council to ensure assistance and support for the fire-hit families.
The incident was the second fire this week in Barangay Tetuan. The first on Monday damaged approximately P600,000 in properties. (PNA)
