CEBU CITY – Fifteen individuals were displaced when a landslide struck a mountain barangay in Danao City, northern Cebu province on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Danao Mayor Nito Durano, accompanied by Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, immediately inspected the area after the incident.
Mayor Durano reported that no one was injured during the landslide in Barangay Cambubho.
The affected families were brought to an evacuation center at Cambubho Integrated School.
At least 35 households in Dayung Kamonggay were also affected as boulders affected the main road.
Mayor Durano said the landslide was caused by the aftershocks of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit northern Cebu on Tuesday night, Sept. 30.
With the help of barangay workers, Mayor Durano was able to visit each of the households affected by the landslide.
The mayor disclosed that the city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) will monitor the area 24/7.
“We will closely monitor if there’s a need for more evacuation,” the mayor said.
The DRRMO has recommended a thorough inspection by rock and soil mechanics, foundation engineering, geotechnical, and structural geology experts to assess the situation in the area.
