ILOILO CITY – Contractual nurses and other hospital staff in Antique province staged a strike over a four-month delay in their salaries.
The contractual nurses and staff of Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) in the provincial capital of San Jose de Buenavista town started their strike on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
This left ASMGH, the government hospital owned and managed by the Antique provincial government, understaffed, with regular hospital nurses and staff filling the void of contractual nurses working beyond their shifts.
Contractual nursing staff have been begging for the release of their salary several times but have yet to receive compensation.
The provincial government under Gov. Paolo Javier is trying to solve the problem.
The provincial government earlier claimed that the delay was mainly due to incomplete documents, including daily time records (DTRs).
Hospital management allegedly had a hard time processing with the provincial government as some documents even lack a simple signature.
