Bus carrying Grade 1 students on excursion catches fire along NLEX
A bus carrying over 40 Grade 1 excursionists caught fire while traversing the North Luzon Expressway's (NLEX) northbound lane in the area of Barangay Patubig, Marilao, Bulacan on Wednesday night, Oct. 1.
The bus filled with Grade 1 students, teachers, and parents, catches fire along the North Luzon Expressway in Marilao, Bulacan on Oct. 1, 2025.
No one was reported injured in the incident. The passengers, who were mostly children, were quickly transferred to another bus to be brought home.
Based on the initial investigation of the Marilao Bureau of Fire Station (BFP), the rear tire of the bus allegedly burst into flames.
Police said the bus reportedly came from an amusement park in Pasay City.
"We were about to enter the NLEX when I smelled something, I noticed that the smoke on my window side was very thick and the wall by the window was already hot," a mother of a Grade 1 pupil said.
The passengers said they heard a loud explosion which was followed by flames engulfing the bus from the rear.
The bus stopped and the passengers were rushed out.
The incident caused heavy traffic on the expressway.
