- Binangonan, a lakeshore municipality in Rizal Province has been recognized by the Rizal Provincial Government for its continuing support to the pro-environment programs of the capitol
In recognition of its commitment to environmental stewardship, the Binangonan municipal government was honored by the Rizal provincial government for its sustained pro-environmental initiatives.
During the 12th anniversary celebration of the Ynares Eco System (YES) Program of the provincial government of Rizal, held recently in Antipolo City, the local government received the Seal of Excellence Award in recognition of its full support for the capitol’s environmental programs.
As par of the award, the Binangonan municipal government received a dump truck to be used for the town's cleaning and greening programs.
Binangonan Mayor Rhea Ynares and Vice Mayor Russel Callanta Ynares received the plaque of recognition from Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares during the anniversary celebration held on Sept. 30 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The YES anniversary celebration is traditionally held every Sept. 26, but due to recent bad weather, the provincial government moved the event to Sept. 30 to allow municipal and barangay officials from far-flung villages to attend the awarding ceremony -- an annual milestone for the capitol.
Vice Mayor Ynares said the achievements gained by the lakeshore town can be attributed to the concerted efforts of the village leaders, residents, and volunteers from the various sectors who helped the municipal government in implementing pro-environment programs in partnership with the provincial government.
One of the active participants in the pro-environment programs of the municipality is the Barkadahan ng Kababaihan sa Binangonan (BKB) led by Dr. Rose Martha Callanta Ynares, mother of Vice Mayor Ynares.
The BKB members are also engaged in recycling projects, transforming recyclable household wastes into usable items such as bags, rags, coin purses, and other novelty products.
Aside from the recognition received by the Binangonan municipal government, Barangay Gulod was cited as the Greenest Barangay in the province, and the Binangonan Municipal Slaughterhouse received a plaque of recognition for its cleanliness.
The YES program, initiated 12 years ago during the term of then Governor Rebecca “Nini” Ynares, has gained widespread acceptance -- from villages to communities -- as the residents witnessed the benefits of clean rivers, streams, waterways, and surroundings in both upland and lowland areas.
Communities in the town maintain vegetables and fruits gardens that support residents' livelihood needs.
Regular cleaning and greening activities are held in all the main and island villages in Binangonan.
