16 hurt as jeep falls off cliff in Quezon

CALAUAG, Quezon – A driver and 15 passengers were injured when their jeepney plunged into a cliff in Barangay Pinagsakayan, this town, on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 1.
Police identified the victims as passengers Haidie, 61; Rufa, 22; Adrian, minor; Eulin, 58; Cristina, 39; Mary, 52; Nilia, 65; Marissa, 51; Tyron, 37; Richard, 44; Rolan, 54; Leonisa, 43; Florante Jr., minor; Renalyn, minor; and Amiah, and Luisito, 45, jeepney driver.
Investigation said the jeepney’s brakes suddenly malfunctioned in a curved and descending portion of the road and the vehicle fell into a cliff.
The injured were taken to various hospitals.
Authorities took almost an hour to rescue the victims as the area is 21 kilometers away from the town center.
