Sultan Kudarat vows grandiose Kalimudan Festival

DAVAO CITY – The provincial government of Sultan Kudarat has vowed a grandiose Kalimudan Festival next month that will coincide with the province’s 52nd founding anniversary.
With the launching of the annual celebration at SM City General Santos City on Tuesday, Sept. 30, festival director Kahar Dalaten said the province is gearing for a longer and livelier Kalimudan Festival 2025.
Dalaten said residents, as well as visitors, could expect bigger celebrations as organizers described it as the gateway to Region 12 or the Soccsksargen Region (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City)
He added that the event promises to give a wider exposure to investors, partners, and tourists.
“We are opening our doors wider than ever before—opening Sultan Kudarat for our investors to explore, for our partners to invest with. Mas colorful, mas engrande. Mas makulay, mas nakakaindak,” said Dalaten.
The festival, which will culminate on Nov. 22, will also feature a wide mix of cultural shows, sports events, and service programs.
Aside from the cultural and traditional shows, the festival will also bring the first ever Haraya Grand K-pop Concert in the region.
Among the initial activities to open the festival is the International Coffee Innovation Summit at the Sultan Kudarat Convention Center in Tacurong City from Oct. 5 to 9.
The event will showcase the Southeast Asia Green Coffee Competition, Coffee Innovation Forum, and the Philippine Coffee Roasting Competition.
Aside from homegrown coffees, entries from Southeast Asia countries will also be evaluated in the Southeast Asia Green Coffee Competition, which is organized by Filipino Coffee Institute.
“From local farms to the world stage, this is where ideas, flavors, and champions are made. Tara, tikman natin ang future ng kape dito mismo sa Sultan Kudarat,” said Gov. Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu.
The mountains of Sultan Kudarat is home to one of the best sources of Robusta coffee variety in the country.
Kalimudan is derived from the Maguindanaoan word for "coming together" or "gathering."
The festival, which also coincides with the province’s founding anniversary on Nov. 22, is also a thanksgiving celebration that showcases the vibrant culture of the province.
Kalimudan Festival was launched in 1999 during the term of Gov. Pakung “Pax” Mangudadatu, the grandfather of the incumbent governor.
