POLICE assist in monitoring and checking of structures in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental province on Wednesday, Oct. 1, following the 6.9-quake in Cebu on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
BACOLOD CITY - The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) is on full alert following the magnitude-6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu and also affected Negros Island on Tuesday night, Sept. 30.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, said that all police units across Negros Island have been tasked to coordinate with local government units (LGUs), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) to conduct monitoring, assess the situation, and help ensure public safety.
No significant damage or casualties have been reported as of posting time.
He said police are ready to assist and maintain peace and order in case of aftershocks or related incidents.
“On behalf of PRO-NIR, I express our deepest concern for the safety and well-being of everyone,” Ibay said in a statement.
He urged the public to remain alert, stay safe, and strictly follow advisories from concerned government agencies and their local disaster offices.
“Let us all respond with calm, discipline, and readiness,” Ibay said, reaffirming the regional office’s commitment to protecting lives and properties and providing immediate support when necessary.
