PHIVOLCS
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) lifted its tsunami warning at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, following a strong earthquake offshore of Cebu province.
The magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck at 9:59 p.m. on Sept. 30, with an epicenter located 19 kilometers northeast of Bogo City, Cebu.
At 10:32 p.m., Phivolcs had issued a tsunami information bulletin for minor sea-level disturbances affecting coastal communities in Cebu, Leyte, and Biliran.
After an extended two-hour observation period, no unusual sea-level changes were reported.
“With this, any effects due to minor sea-level disturbances have largely passed,” Phivolcs said, announcing the cancellation of its previous recommendations.
