ILOILO CITY – The Office of Civil Defense-6 is seeking an assessment of the structural integrity of infrastructure across Western Visayas region following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in nearby Cebu province.
OCD-6 Regional Director Raul Fernandez urged national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs), and stakeholders in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the highly urbanized city of Iloilo to assess various infrastructures for safety and resilience purposes.
"Every structure that has been weakened by this earthquake poses a possible danger to our communities. We must act quickly to identify risks and recommend solutions, whether through repairs, retrofitting, or clearing unsafe facilities,” said Fernandez, chairman of the Regional Risk Reduction and Management Council-6.
The assessment will be conducted in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) or the engineering offices of the provincial, city, or municipal governments.
No major damage was recorded in Western Visayas despite the earthquake being felt in the entire region.
