LTO taps enforcers to assist in fast, smooth transportation of assistance to quake-hit Cebu
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered the deployment of its enforcers in Cebu to ensure the fast and smooth transport of relief items and other forms of assistance to the affected areas following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that jolted the province.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said he already tasked the local government units and other agencies for traffic management operations.
“Every minute is crucial in government response as there are lives involved. I already instructed the Regional Director, Region 7, to ensure that our personnel are on the ground assisting in ensuring the quick access of assistance to areas where help is needed,” said Mendoza.
President Marcos has ordered the mobilization of all government resources to maximize the assistance to the affected communities.
Currently, the national government is focusing on rescuing as many individuals who were reported to have been trapped in some establishments. Hundreds of people were reported to be needing medical assistance due to injuries.
Mendoza said traffic management on all the roads leading to the areas where rescue operations and other quake response is important to ensure the fast and smooth flow of all forms of assistance.
He said nearby regional offices were instructed to place their personnel on standby for possible reinforcement.
Meanwhile, Asec Mendoza said he also instructed the Regional Director, Region 7, to conduct an assessment on the extent of damage to LTO offices and facilities.
“We also instructed our local officials to check on the condition of all our personnel in Cebu and other areas affected by the earthquake for immediate assistance,” said Mendoza.
