LPA may develop into tropical depression 'Paolo' within 48 hours — PAGASA

The low-pressure area (LPA) east of the country has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), and now has a “high chance” of developing into a tropical depression within 24 to 48 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the system was located 1,080 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon as of 3 a.m.
She added that the LPA’s development into a tropical cyclone is being closely monitored as it may traverse Northern Luzon in the coming days.
“Mataas ang tyansa nito na lumapit at tumbukin ang Northern Luzon at maapektuhan ang malaking bahagi nito at ilang bahagi ng Central Luzon, especially by Friday (There is a high chance that it will approach and make landfall in Northern Luzon, affecting large parts of the region and some areas of Central Luzon, especially by Friday, Oct. 3),” de la Cruz-Galicia said.
“Manatili tayong mag-antabay sa magiging updates ng PAGASA ukol sa weather disturbance dahil as soon na maging tropical depression ang LPA na ito ay agad tayong mag-iissue ng tropical cyclone bulletin para sa ating guidance (We should stay alert for PAGASA’s updates on this weather disturbance, as a tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued immediately once the LPA becomes a tropical depression),” she added.
As of Wednesday morning, de la Cruz-Galicia said the LPA has no direct effect on the country yet.
Over the next 24 hours, warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the “easterlies,” are expected to bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Aurora, and Quezon.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country may experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to stay alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
