TACLOBAN CITY - Matag-ob, Leyte Mayor Bernandino Tacoy announced the suspension of classes on all levels on Wednesday, Oct. 1, due to the magnitude- 6.9 earthquake in Cebu on Tuesday night.
“Classes on all levels in the Municipality of Matag-ob are suspended on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to give way for an emergency structural assessment of classrooms, private establishments, and government buildings.”
He encouraged teachers to report to school to help with the assessment.
Tacoy appealed to business establishments with multiple-story buildings to have them checked first before resuming operations.
The mayor added that class will resume on Thursday, Oct. 2, once the official results of the assessment are out.
The official appealed to residents living in landslide-prone areas to take extra precautions since aftershocks are still being felt.
