Emergency department of Ospital ng Sampaloc undergoes full renovation

The Emergency Department of Ospital ng Sampaloc is now set for a full renovation, more than three decades after it first opened.
The city government of Manila officially began the project through a groundbreaking ceremony attended by city and health officials.
Present at the ceremony were Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, Fourth District Representative Giselle Maceda, Manila Health Department Officer-in-Charge Dr. Grace Padilla, representatives from PhilHealth, members of the city council, and barangay officials from Sampaloc.
Dr. Angel Erich Sison, director of Ospital ng Sampaloc, said this was a long-awaited development for the hospital.
“Sa loob ng 31 taon mula nang maitayo ang Ospital ng Sampaloc, ngayon pa lamang ito isasailalim sa ganitong kalawakang pagsasaayos. Tunay itong isang biyaya para sa aming mga kawani at sa mga pasyenteng aming pinaglilingkuran (In the 31 years since Ospital ng Sampaloc was established, this is the first time it will undergo a renovation of this scale. This is truly a blessing for our staff and the patients we serve),” Sison said.
Mayor Domagoso said the renovation will be completed in 90 days and will include several upgrades to improve emergency services for Sampaloc residents.
“Ospital ng Sampaloc, ospital na parang resort? Those days are gone. Yes, gipit tayo, pero ‘wag kayong mag-alala, (Ospital ng Sampaloc, a hospital like a resort? Those days are gone) you are part of the vision of the government,” Domagoso said during his speech.
“Sisiguraduhin ko, bago mag-Pasko, sasaya ang Ospital ng Sampaloc. We will deliver in the next three months for the people of Sampaloc (I will make sure that before Christmas, Ospital ng Sampaloc will be joyful. We will deliver in the next three months for the people of Sampaloc).”
Among the new facilities and improvements included in the project are a nine-bed treatment area, centralized medical gas and air conditioning systems, a surgery room, triage and admitting area, minor operating room, observation ambulatory, decontamination room, treatment room, equipment and supply storage room, medication preparation area, and an all-gender and PWD washroom.
The mayor explained that the decision to renovate came after seeing the deteriorated and unsafe condition of the current emergency room.

Recognizing the urgent need for improvements, the city government has prioritized the project to enhance safety and care.

Domagoso confirmed that he has instructed City Engineer Armando Andres to fast-track the renovation to ensure its completion before the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

This timeline aims to prepare the hospital to better serve the community during the busy festive period.

He also assured residents that government funds allocated for the project will be managed responsibly, with a commitment to avoid any wastage of taxpayers’ money.

The Manila city government continues its efforts to upgrade public health facilities and deliver quality healthcare services to its constituents.
