DAVAO CITY – The Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has integrated the health promotion program into Islamic values for better understanding and acceptance.
MOH Minister Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr. said his office has made the seven priority areas of the Department of Health (DOH)-Health Promotion Framework Strategy (HPFS) 2030 with Islamic Perspective into modules.
The Integration of Islamic Values into HPFS 2023 aligns with MOH’s commitment to deliver health services that reflect the people’s faith, culture, and lived experiences of the communities, Sinolinding said during the launching on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
“By localizing health promotion through the lens of Islamic teachings, these modules not only foster better understanding and acceptance of health messages, but also reinforces the spiritual and moral responsibility of caring for one’s health as a form of Ibadah (worship),” he said.
Following extensive research and communications with different sectors, the health minister added that the MOH has found out the vital role of the Islamic religious leaders.
Sinolinding acknowledged the contribution of the Islamic religious leaders in formulation of the initiative.
According to MOH, the seven priority areas are: Diet and exercise, environmental health, immunization, substance use, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and violence and injury prevention (fostering safe and inclusive communities).
Sinolinding said that Islam is always supporting everything that is good and always warning us on everything that is harmful to us. “All of these are reiterations that everything was already revealed before us.”
