BACOLOD CITY – A 10-year-old girl was raped and killed in Sitio Pinasagan, Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) led by Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay condemned the crime and stressed that violence against women and children is a grave offense that will never be tolerated.
“We share the grief of the victim’s family and stand with the community in demanding justice,” Ibay said in a statement.
Police said victim was found naked and lifeless in the middle of a sugarcane plantation and sustained multiple stab wounds. The City Health Office conducted a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
A 33-year-old farmer was arrested in a follow-up operation in Barangay Linantuyan on Tuesday afternoon.
Police recovered a knife and other pieces of evidence during the pursuit operation.
The suspect was apprehended after witnesses positively identified him. He is detained at Guihulngan City Police Station and faces appropriate charges.
Police committed to exhaust all means to bring the suspect to justice and ensure that such atrocities have no place in Negros Island.
Lawmen urged the people to cooperate by immediately reporting any information that could aid in the speedy resolution of the case.
