The Manila Police Department (MPD) reported that this year's Traslacion is moving at a slower pace compared to last year's procession, which is a significant event for Filipino Catholics.

MPD Chief Thomas Arnold Ibay observed a noticeable difference in the speed of the procession.

Police said the image of the Jesus Nazareno arrived at the San Sebastian Church for the traditional "Dungaw" at almost 6 p.m. which is three hours later than last year.

While it traditionally takes hours to complete the journey, police said the slower pace of this year's Traslacion were due to several factors such as to the number of devotees who were eager to climb the andas.

Ibay said the solemn procession may take another two to three hours before its arrival at Quiapo Church.

Meanwhile, the MPD emphasized its focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants, especially considering the challenges posed by large crowds and the ongoing public health situation.

Despite the slower movement, devotees have continued to show immense faith and devotion throughout the event.

As of 2 p.m., the crowd was estimated at 2.2 million by the local government.

While the procession is slower this year, authorities have been commended for their efforts to manage the crowds effectively.
