San Miguel bowed out of contention in the East Asia Super League Home-and-Away Season 2 after absorbing a 94-63 road loss at the hands of Japan B.League champion Hiroshima Dragonflies on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The Beermen started out flat and simply found no answers to the scintillating outside shooting of the hosts who drained 14 triples on their way to a 4-1 record while also clinching a spot in the Final Four in Group A.
SMB, which never recovered from a 30-18 deficit at the end of the first frame, remained winless through four games which also formally denied the PBA representative any chance at advancing to the next round.
Kejiro Mitani and Nick Mayo were at the forefront of the attack for the Dragonflies, finishing with 18 points each while its other import Kerry Blackshear Jr. had a near triple-double of 12 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.
Hiroshima led by as many as 34 points.
Torren Jones paced SMB with 24 points and 13 rebounds while June Mar Fajardo added 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Beermen were without their other import in Jabari Narcis who did not join the team in their trip to Japan.
SMB will try to get some measure of pride and end its EASL campaign when it wraps it up with games against Hong Kong Easter and Suwon KT.
