Mdanila 6th istrict Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. has called on his colleagues and educators in the Baptist community to continue to be the “bright lights” of the country and help promote positive traditional Filipino values like faith, love, and hope.

“To our Baptist educators and communities, you are more than teachers and congregations - you are stewards of faith and character,” said Abante, one of the authors of the National Baptist Day Act.

National Baptist Day--as provided for under Republic Act (RA) No.11897--falls on every second Thursday of January. The law was enacted in July 2022.

“National Baptist Day is more than a celebration; it is a recognition of the indelible impact that Baptist communities have in uplifting lives and spreading the teachings of faith, love, and hope across our nation,” Abante, a pastor and co-chairman of the quad-committee (quad-comm)

National Baptist Day is a “special working holiday” that is meant to honor Baptists for their continuous pursuit of an evangelical mission that strengthens society.

Abante founded the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church in 1975 and emphasized the critical role of faith in shaping the moral foundation of Philippine society.

The law also stipulates at the same time the establishment of Christian schools that instill academic excellence and build character, as well as churches that teach biblical principles that foster community development.

“Your efforts help shape the hearts and minds of younger generations of Filipinos, instilling values that inspire them to become responsible, compassionate, and God-fearing citizens who embrace their role in nation-building,” the veteran solon said.

"Let your (Baptist leaders) leadership and example continue to serve as a guiding light of hope and a force for good in our nation,” said Abante, who noted that the National Baptist Day commemoration “serves as a call to action for individuals and communities to reflect on their values and actions".

“Faith is the light that guides us through the challenges of modern society, and shields us against its temptations. It compels us to do the right thing and to take the morally upright path when confronted by the corrupting influences that have eroded traditional family values,” he added.

“Our shared faith reminds us that despite our differences, we are all called to love one another and work together for the common good. This is the spirit that Baptists embody and inspire in others," Abante explained further.
