Embassy of Japan turns over volleyball equipment to PNVF

Minister and Consul General Hanada Takahiro and PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara presided over the ceremony that also served as a symbol of partnership between two volleyball-crazed nations.

“With the Philippines first hosting of the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championships in September, new possibilities for Philippine volleyball have made an exciting case for its future. We eagerly take this opportunity to support the Philippines’ emerging volleyball scene, as it unites and empowers more Filipinos with its growth,” said Min. Hanada.

“Through its Sports for Tomorrow program, Japan realizes and harnesses the power of sports as a force for global prosperity and harmony,” he added.

The equipment included boxes of volleyballs that would be beneficial for the country’s programs not only for the national team, but also in strengthening its grassroots development.

Suzara said nets and poles will also be sent in the coming months.

“We appreciate Japan’s continuous support in Philippine volleyball. These equipment will give a lot of enthusiasm for young players in the provinces, who are the beneficiaries. I’d like to thank the Embassy of Japan for the effort of bringing these balls to Manila,” Suzara said.

Also in attendance were members of the national men’s team that include EJ Casaña and Vince Lorenzo, and Thea Gagate and Dawn Catindig in the women’s side.

Japan and the Philippines have had closed connections in volleyball particularly over the last few years where Japanese players have been gaining popularity while the country was hosting the Volleyball Nations League.
