A clash occurred between the police and devotees near Ayala Bridge in Manila, on Thursday, January 9.

The devotees, who were eager to participate in the procession of the Jesus Nazareno, insisted on crossing the bridge despite the police's attempts to stop them.

The Traslacion procession, an annual religious event marking the feast of the Black Nazarene, attracts large crowds of faithful who participate in a tradition of walking barefoot to honor the image of the Jesus Nazareno.

The situation escalated as the police, tasked to manage the crowd and ensure public safety, tried to prevent devotees from crossing the bridge for safety reasons, but the devotees persisted, wanting to get closer to the procession route.

Authorities continue to remind the devotees to follow the guidelines issued by Quiapo Church and the Manila City government.
