Actress Rufa Mae Quinto has surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to a "Balitanghali" report, Rufa Mae did so after arriving Wednesday from San Francisco, California, Wednesday.
Her lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, coordinated with NAIA-NBI Chief Jimmy De Leon for her surrender.
The comedian is being sued for her alleged involvement with Dermacare, the controversial company that actress-entrepreneur Neri Naig was entangled with, prior.
Atty. Mary Louise stated that Rufa is facing 14 charges of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, which prohibits the sale of securities in the Philippines, including shares and investments, without a registration statement that has been properly submitted to and approved by the SEC.
"She will face those charges... mag-voluntary surrender siya and magpo-post po kami ng bail for that. She's worried kasi hindi naman totoo 'yung allegations kasi my client po is just a brand ambassador, a model-endorser," Atty. Mary Louise said.
Atty. Mary Louise reiterated that Rufa is also a victim.
"Ni hindi sa kanya nakapagbayad ng downpayment, tapos 'yung mga tseke po puro tumalbog. Lahat po 'yan hawak naman po namin 'yung ebidensya, ipe-present namin sa court," she added.
