Five balikbayan boxes containing P6,120,000 worth of dried marijuana leaves were surrendered by a forwarding company to Las Piñas City police on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena said an employee of a forwarding company in Barangay Pamplona Tres, Las Piñas City called up at around 9:00 p.m., reporting five unclaimed parcels.

Abrugena said members of the District Drug Enforcement Unit immediately acted on the report in coordination with the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, District Intelligence Division, Station Drug Enforcement Unit of Las Piñas City Police Station, Pamplona Sub-Station 2, Forensic Unit of Southern Police District (SPD), and Manila Police District Drug Enforcement Unit.

He said police operatives found 51 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops inside five large balikbayan boxes.
