Mechanic hurt, 7 buses damaged in fire

CABUYAO CITY, Laguna – A mechanic was injured and seven buses were damaged in a fire in a bus garage in Barangay Pulo here on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7.

The injured was identified as Ferdinand Nicereo, 46, an underchassis mechanic. He sustained second-degree burns and taken to a hospital.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Cabuyao said Nicereo and three others were dismantling an old bus for scrap at 8 a.m. when the fire from an unknown origin started.

They tried to extinguish the flames by pouring water but the fire spread further and engulfed several properties.

The blaze grew larger and the BFP-Cabuyao and other fire volunteers responded. The fire reached first alarm and declared out at 9:16 a.m. 

Damage to property was estimated at P7 million.  The BFP is investigating the cause of the fire.
