DPWH: Maharlika Highway rehabilitation in Quezon set for 2025

The rehabilitation of key sections of the Maharlika Highway in Quezon Province has been prioritized for 2025 to improve road conditions and ensure smoother travel along this vital national route, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

Quezon 4th District Engineer Rodolfo Florido said the project will cover sections from Malikboy in Pagbilao to Santa Catalina in Atimonan, the town of Tagkawayan, and portions extending to Camarines Norte.

Classified as “beyond routine” maintenance, the rehabilitation will address structural and safety concerns along the highway's heavily used segments.

Florido cited challenges such as limited funding, staggered fund releases, and frequent rains caused by the shear line, which have delayed road maintenance efforts.

To mitigate these delays, the DPWH is coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely fund allocation while implementing traffic management measures to minimize disruptions for motorists.

The department aims to complete significant improvements before the 2025 Lenten season, when a surge of travellers is expected to head to the Bicol and Visayas regions.

The Maharlika Highway, a critical route connecting Metro Manila to southern Luzon and beyond, plays a key role in facilitating the movement of commuters, travellers, and economic activities.

Its rehabilitation is expected to enhance road safety, improve connectivity, and drive regional development.
