MSpectrum secures new solar deal with GTWC

Manila Electric Company's (Meralco) subsidiary, MSpectrum, Inc., has switched on a new solar rooftop facility for General Trias Water Corp. (GTWC) that will power a water pump in Cavite.

Valued at P2.5 million, MSpectrum said the 33 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar facility is designed to generate 45,350 kWh of clean energy annually.

The project, turned over late last year, makes GTWC the first water pump facility to incorporate sustainability efforts into its operations.

Since its operation began, the facility is expected to reduce GTWC's carbon footprint by approximately 32.3 metric tons annually, equivalent to planting 1,400 trees or reducing vehicle travel by 79,000 kilometers.

The solar facility will also help GTWC generate significant energy savings. MSpectrum Chief Operating Officer Patrick Panlilio stated, “We proudly celebrate the ceremonial turnover of the 33-kWp solar power generating system that will help GTWC achieve their sustainability goals and realize savings on their electricity bill.”

Robert Galang, Meralco senior assistant vice president and business head, lauded the collaboration and GTWC’s commitment to sustainability.

“As its business continues to grow, One Meralco Group will continue to extend support through our suite of energy services and innovative solutions,” he said.

GTWC has been serving General Trias City, Naic, and Alfonso municipalities, and some areas in Laguna, Batangas, and Bulacan since 1995.

MSpectrum has installed over 80 MW of solar rooftop projects over the past eight years, providing power to an estimated 40,000 households.

In related news, MSpectrum also signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) last month with East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. for the installation of a phase 2 solar power project at 10 of its water facilities. Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
