The Las Piñas City government announced the start of the “Operation Timbang Plus” (OPT) program, an annual weighing of children to determine their nutritional status, on Jan. 9.

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the OPT team composed of barangay health workers will conduct a house-to-house visit in the city’s 20 baragays to determine the weight and height of every child aged 0 to 59 months old or below five years old.

Aguilar said the “Operation Timbang Plus” is being conducted in every barangay nationwide every January to March of the year to identify the families with children that need immediate attention.

She said barangay health workers will give children Vitamin A based on the child’s age and health history to enhance their overall nutrition.

The mayor added the OPT results will be used in planning and improvement of nutrition programs of barangays and the nutrition office to combat malnutrition in the city.

Aguilar is urging all parents in the city to determine the nutritional status of their children.
