PBBM names Geraldine Econg as new Sandiganbayan presiding justice

President Marcos has appointed Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Econg as the body's new presiding justice, replacing Amparo Cabotaje-Tang who retired in November last year.

Econg was first appointed to the Sandiganbayan in January 2016 where she chaired the body's Second Division.
The Sandiganbayan is a special appellate collegial court handling criminal and civil cases involving graft, corrupt practices, and other offenses committed by public officers and employees.
Econg will retire from the Sandiganbayan in August 2037 upon reaching the age of 70.
The new Sandiganbayan presiding justice is a law graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu.
Econg has held various judicial roles, including presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 9 in Cebu City from 2004 to 2010.
She was also a nominee for the Supreme Court associate justice position in 2021.
