DepEd to issue internal guidelines on revised dress code

The Department of Education (DepEd) has advised its field personnel, including public school teachers and non-teaching staff, to continue adhering to the “existing dress code” until new internal guidelines are issued.

In a memorandum dated Jan. 7, DepEd Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development Wilfredo Cabral issued an advisory on Civil Service Commission (CSC) Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 16, or the “Revised Dress Code for Government Officials and Employees,” which was issued in November 2024.

Cabral noted that DepEd is “given six months” to “formulate and issue” its internal guidelines in alignment with the revised dress code issued by the CSC.

The DepEd Uniform Committee (DUC), Cabral said in the memo, was tasked with formulating and recommending the internal guidelines to the DepEd Executive Committee, after consulting with officials, as well as teaching and non-teaching personnel.

“The new dress code policy will take effect only upon the issuance of DepEd’s internal guidelines,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, DepEd reminded all its field offices to continue adhering to the prescribed DepEd uniform and office attire issued in September 2022 as the “existing dress code” until the new internal guidelines are released and implemented.

Earlier, a group of teachers urged the CSC to reconsider the implementation of the circular, in consideration of the “unique realities” faced by public school teachers.

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) said the CSC’s circular requires government employees to wear ASEAN-inspired attire on the first Monday of each month and Filipiniana-inspired attire on the second to fourth Mondays.
