QCPD destroys over P6-M worth of illegal firecrackers, pyrotechnics devices

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) destroyed a total of P6,572,820 worth of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices at the QCPD grounds in Camp Karingal, Quezon City on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

QCPD chief Col. Melecio Buslig Jr., along with personnel from the Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and other police officials, led the disposal procedure.

The confiscated items were seized during 55 operations conducted by QCPD’s 16 police stations and other units.

It aimed to combat the sale and use of illegal firecrackers, ensuring public safety during the holiday season.

Among the destroyed items were:

  • Piccolo
  • Poppop
  • Five Star
  • Pla-Pla
  • Giant Bawang
  • Giant Whistle Bomb
  • Atomic Bomb (Super Lolo)
  • Mother Rockets (Boga)
  • Small Judas Belt
  • Kwitis
  • Fountains of various sizes
  • Leopard King Pacquiao
  • Kingkong
  • Sputnik Gold
  • Improvised Boga


The firecrackers were confiscated for violating Republic Act 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, and use of firecrackers; and Quezon City Ordinance No. SP-2618, S-2017, which bans their use in public places.

Col. Buslig attributed the operation's success to the collaborative efforts of the QCPD, the Bureau of Fire Protection, force multipliers, and the support of the local government led by Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“This activity is the result of the dedication of our police stations and units, in partnership with agencies like the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the support of our local government. Force multipliers and other stakeholders also played a key role in ensuring public safety,” he said.

The safe disposal of these hazardous materials is part of QCPD's commitment to protecting the community and preventing firecracker-related injuries and incidents.
