Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor condemned the murder of national athlete and Southeast Asian Games multi-medalist Mervin Guarte on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
“Paalam Mervin Guarte! (Goodbye Mervin Guarte)” Dolor said in a Facebook post.

“Hustisya para kay Mervin Guarte! Kinokondena ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ang sinapit ni Mervin Guarte. Hindi matitinag ang aming panawagan para sa katarungan, at patuloy naming hinahangad na mapanagot ang mga responsable sa krimeng ito (Justice for Mervin Guarte! The provincial government condemns the murder of Mervin Guarte. We are calling for justice and our pursuit of those responsible for this crime will never cease),” Dolor added.
“Maraming maraming salamat sa karangalan at pagmamahal mo sa Bayan. Saludo kami sa iyo (Thank you very much for the honor and love for country. We salute you).”
Dolor said he has ordered Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office chief Police Col. Edison Revita to identify and apprehend Guarte’s assailant and serve justice to his family.
Guarte was killed in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro before dawn on Tuesday.
A member of the Philippine Air Force with the rank of Airman First Class, the 33-year-old Guarte was assigned to Fernando Airbase, Lipa City, Batangas at the time of his death.
The victim was a resident of Barangay Malinao, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
