DAVAO CITY – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front Peace Implementing Panel has designated seasoned peace advocate Datuan Magon Jr. as its new spokesperson.
MAGON
In a statement, the MILF said that Magon has over two decades of experience in peace advocacy work and expected to bring wealth of knowledge and expertise in his new designation.
Magon serves as a member of the Joint Communications Committee (JCC) and the Joint Security Assessment (JSA) which are crucial peace process mechanisms under the direct supervision of the government and MILF Peace Implementing Panels.
As spokesperson, Magon will directly work with MILF-PIP chair Mohager Iqbal. Magon’s deep understanding of the peace process and his commitment to dialogue and reconciliation are expected to be valuable assets, the MILF added.
Magon was deputy secretary general of United Youth for Peace and Development (UYPAD), the largest Muslim youth organization in the Philippines.
UYPAD is one of the most active groups in grassroots peace-building efforts at the height of the conflict in Central Mindanao.
“A strong believer in peaceful approaches to violence in his region, Datuan has worked in a number of roles to convey and spread that message over the last decade,” the MILF added.
