The province of Ilocos Sur mourned the death of former Ilocos Sur first district Rep. and Gov. Deogracias Victor "DV" Savellano on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Savellano, an Agriculture Undersecretary at the time of his passing at the age of 65, died of an unspecified cause.

The provincial government thanked Savellano for serving Ilocos Sur.
"Dios unay iti agngina for the life-long devotion and commitment to public service," it said in a Facebook post.
People and government officials in the province also mourned the death of the official.
Tributes poured in on Facebook, with one netizen recalling that Savellano was a customer of her delicacy.
His last Facebook post, published on New Year's Eve, paid tribute to the past year and hoped for an amazing 2025.
Savellano, born on Nov. 25, 1959, was congressman from 2016 to 2022. He was House deputy speaker from 2019 to 2022.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. appointed him to the Department of Agriculture in 2023.
As Agriculture Undersecretary, Savellano was the oversight official of the National Tobacco Administration and presiding official of the NTA Governing Board.
The NTA mourned his death and credited him for uplifting the lives of tobacco farmers in the country.
Savellano's wife is actress Dina Bonnevie.
