GOSSIP GIRL: A sneak peek at Alex Calleja's jokes

To all the comedy fans of Alex Calleja, you can finally have him in your home starting Feb. 16 for as long as you have Netflix Philippines. 

In an exclusive interview with the brilliant comedian, Alex tells me how excited he is for this Netflix comedy special. “We filmed this during my birthday special in Maybank Theater last October. I produced two sold-out shows in Maybank sponsored by 555 Sardines, Pilot, Katinko, Sharp, Cebu Pac, and some congressmen friends, Bryan Yamsuan, Sam Verzosa, and Senator Mark Villar. We filmed both shows in Maybank to give you one of the best Netflix Comedy Special: Alex Calleja: Tamang Panahon.” 

2025 is indeed the perfect year for Alex as he launches his special on Netflix, and the week after, he will have a comedy show for the ofws in Singapore on Feb 16. 

Then in April he flies to Dubai to join other Pinoy comedians to perform for our overseas Filipino workers in Dubai. Then he looked at me and suddenly I could see a punchline coming in. “The producers are actually interested in inviting you Giselle since we also need a female host and stand-up comedienne. (The former sentence is serious… then wait for it….). I actually requested that we share only one dressing room. I really don’t mind if you undress in front of me.”

As a naughty comedienne, I kept on laughing with his joke and this fueled the witty Alex to do more. “Please Giselle, I am so tired of waiting in your IG reels for you to have a wardrobe malfunction. Ang ingat mo sa mga damit mo! Having one dressing room in Dubai is perfect for us. I need this for my core memory.” hahaha! 

I asked Alex to give us a sneak peak on his upcoming Netflix special, just one joke and he gladly gave in. “You know I choose the most random subjects for my comedy material so I decided on a Filipino favorite – Ang Butong - Pakwan! Alam mong adik ka na sa butong-pakwan kapag namumuti na labi mo ka kakakain ng butong pakwan pero hindi ka pa rin tumitigil Tapos nanggigigil ka kapag kinagat mo yung butong pakwan tapos marupok kaya hindi mo makain ng buo. Feeling mo nadaya ka. Pero kapag nabuksan mo at buo siya – OH MY GOD! The feeling of satisfaction! ‘Yung gusto mo siyang  i - MY DAY! Sa sobrang adik ko sa butong pakwan nakakita ako ng isang plastic sa grocery - skinless butong pakwan! Biro mo ang tindi ng gumawa nun yung  self control niya ! Somewhere sa Quezon City - may pabrika ng skinless butong pakwan tapos yung mga factory workers nakapila lang ng ganun para magbukas ng perfect butong pakwan tapos iluluwa nila hindi nila pwede kainin. Tapos may supervisor na nagsasabi – oh iluluwa ang laman, huwag mong kakainin yan!” hahaha!  As a comedienne, I knew this one would be a hit. Then Alex added, “I actually posted this joke teaser on Facebook and somebody actually commented, ‘You know there are machines that do that… to make skinless butong pakwan.’ Then I answered back – I know. And that’s why you will die early because you have no sense of humor. That’s why it’s called a joke.” 

Aside from his Netflix special, you can catch Alex from Monday to Thursday in a morning radio show with Moe Twister that is converted into a podcast called Good Times. “Kailangan may entry ka lagi sa mundo para masabi ng tao na relevant ka kasi pag wala kang entry iniisip ng tao, nag drugs ka na.” Hahaha! I am so excited for my abs to shake from laughing over his Netflix special this February.
