“We will recommend if needed,” said Police Brig. Gen.  Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director.

The Iloilo City Police requested signal jamming in  City Proper District in line with security plans for the annual festival that honors the Santo Niño or Child Jesus.

The Iloilo City government under Mayor Jerry Treñas is amenable to signal jamming if the National Telecommunications Commission  has the proper equipment to ensure that only certain places will be affected.

A massive mobile interruption occurred during the 2023 Dinagyang Festival. There was practically no mobile phone signal in Iloilo City as well as towns in Iloilo province.

It also affected the island-province of Guimaras separated by a body of water from Iloilo City.

The mobile signal shut down not only negatively affected revelers but also residents and businesses that rely on mobile telecommunication.
