BUTUAN CITY – Police arrested a New People’s Army rebel wanted for murder and attempted murder in the Caraga region in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Police Regional Office 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer identified the suspect as Mac, 23, a member of the Sandatahang Yunit Pangpropaganda 16, District Guerilla Front-16, Sub-Regional Committee Northland of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee in the first quarter of 2022.
Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office Director Police Col. April Mark C. Young said the suspect was apprehended on warrants issued by the Regional Trial Court, 10th Judicial Region, Branch 32, San Jose, Surigao del Norte dated Jan. 18, 2023, for murder with no bail recommended and attempted murder dated May 17, 2022.
Young commended operating units for the arrest of the suspect.
“We urge all supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army to reconsider their stance and cease their support for this insurgent group,” he said.
“To the youth, we implore you to be discerning and not be misled into joining the NPA, and we also call on the public to remain vigilant against the nefarious activities of the NPA,” Young said, adding, “Let us stand together for a peaceful and prosperous society, free from violence and deception.”
The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights under the Miranda Doctrine and Anti-Torture Law and was taken to the Cabadbaran police station for documentation and proper disposition.
