ILOILO CITY – To avoid a repeat of the massive blackouts that affected Iloilo and Panay Island last year, MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) urged the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to complete its substation in this city.

MORE Power CEO and President Roel Castro said that NGCP’s 3 x 100 megavolt (MVA) substation here remains unfinished after NGCP initially promised to complete it before the end of last year.
After it failed to complete the substation on schedule, the NGCP said it will be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
“We are alarmed by the delay of this project,” said Castro.
MORE Power attributed 162 power outages to NGCP in 2024.
These translated to 811 hours that affected not only MORE Power’s operations but also caused inconvenience to businesses and government offices in the regional capital of Western Visayas.
Castro reiterated the need for NGCP to complete its substation due to the continuing power demands here.
