Zamboanga City cop feted for neutralizing 2 gunmen

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Police Regional Office-9 feted intelligence officer Police Senior Master Sgt. Ryan Mariano for neutralizing two lawless elements here recently.

PRO-9 chief Police Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding visited Mariano, who was wounded in the encounter, in a hospital on Saturday, Jan. 4, and awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and Medalya ng Kagalingan to him in honor of his heroic act.

Financial assistance was also given to Mariano.

Masauding thanked Mariano for his heroism and assured his family of support.

Mariano and colleagues were patrolling the vicinity of a church in Barangay Ayala on New Year’s Eve when they spotted a person with a warrant of arrest and a companion.

They accosted the suspect but he fired at apprehending lawmen. Police returned fire and killed the suspect and his companion was wounded.

The wounded suspect, Haber Tating, was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The suspects were tagged as notorious criminals and gun for hire personalities in Zamboanga Peninsula.
