Man hacks father dead, injures mom in Davao City

A 33-year-old man hacked his 71-year-old father to death and injured his 58-year-old mother after he was pestered to look for work in Barangay Inayangan, Davao City on Friday, Jan. 3.

Investigation said the suspect, Jickie Bato, took a bolo after the reprimand and hacked his father, Ernesto, who was then chopping firewood, in the upper body.

The suspect proceeded inside their house and hacked his mother, Elizabeth, in the head. She was taken to a hospital where she is recovering.

The suspect fled and was arrested in a follow-up operation. Police recovered the bolo from the suspect.

He said that he was fed up by his parents’ constant badgering about seeking employment.

The suspect admitted murdering his parents and said he had no regrets killing them and willing to accept the decision of his family.

The suspect who faces parricide and frustrated parricide charges is detained at the Davao City Calinan Police Station.
