Military reunites families separated by armed struggle

TACLOBAN CITY – The military reunited families separated by the armed struggle through the Wish Upon a Star program of the 802 Infantry (Peerless) Brigade of the Philippine Army this Christmas.

Brig. Gen. Noel Vestuir, commander of the 802nd IB, said the program facilitated the surrender of five New People’s Army rebels – members, squad leader, and the secretary of the sub-regional committee Sesame.

The rebel returnees turned over 11 firearms.

Vestuir added that their surrender also demonstrated their desire to live a peaceful life within the fold of the law, particularly during Christmas, a season of forgiveness, love, and gift-giving.

"This initiative stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to fostering hope, unity, and positive change in the communities we serve," he added.

"This accomplishment underscores the importance of combining community-oriented programs with our peace and development initiatives," Vestuir said.
