DOH: 638 road traffic incidents recorded, 32 new cases on January 4

Road traffic incidents continue to rise, with 32 new cases reported on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Based on its latest data, the Department of Health (DOH) announced that it recorded a total of 638 road traffic incidents between Dec. 22, 2024, and Jan. 4, 2025.

The DOH has been monitoring road traffic incidents during the holiday season through eight pilot areas.

DOH noted that the 638 total cases of road traffic incidents represent a 30 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Deaths due to road crashes remained at seven, with four cases caused by motorcycle accidents.

A total of 117 incidents were attributed to alcohol consumption, 553 involved individuals not using safety accessories, and 452 were motorcycle-related accidents.

As “road safety is a shared responsibility,” the DOH reminded the public to remain disciplined and considerate on the road.

Motorists were also urged to wear safety gear such as helmets and seatbelts, avoid overspeeding, follow traffic signs, get enough rest before driving, and refrain from drinking and driving.
