Zamboanga City Register of Deeds gunned down


ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Register of Deeds of this city was shot and killed outside his office on Rizal St. here on Friday morning,  Jan. 31.

Police identified the victim as Jaybee Villarin Baguinda, 57, a resident of Barangay Culianan here.

Investigation said Baguinda was sitting on the passenger seat of his car when a lone gunman approached and shot him while his vehicle was maneuvering to enter the gate of his office.

The gunman walked and sped off onboard a waiting motorcycle driven by a companion towards Barangay Santa Catalina here.

Baguinda was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The area is usually busy with vehicles and pedestrians as it is where city and national government offices are located.

Police are pursuing the suspect. Tracker teams actively reviewing closed sircuit  footages and collecting evidence to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Zamboanga City police chief Police Col. Kimberly Molitas said all hands are on deck to solve the case.

"We want to reassure the public that ZCPO is fully committed to solving this case and bringing those responsible to justice. Our determination to uphold the safety and security of our community is unwavering. The ZCPO will continue to pursue every lead and resource available until the perpetrators are brought to account for their actions," Molitas said.

"We urge the community to remain vigilant and call on anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in this investigation. Together, we can work to ensure that justice is served and peace is restored in our city."
