Meralco, PNP join forces to clear illegal service connections in Pasay, Paranaque

In its continuing pursuit to promote public safety and ensure stable and reliable electricity service to its customers, Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) recently conducted a joint clearing operations to address illegal service connections in parts of Pasay and Parañaque where around 100 kilograms of wires illegally connected to power facilities were confiscated.

The joint operation was also meant to resolve concerns of Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on illegal tapping to the facilities of LRT-1. Seen in photo are Meralco personnel inspecting the electric pole in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque.

Authorities also removed illegal connections, some which ran hidden inside pipes and underground, found in the residential areas.

Meralco reminds the public that involvement in illegal service connections is against Republic Act 7832 or Anti-Pilferage of Electricity and Theft of Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Act of 1994. It is a punishable crime which may cause fire incidents that could damage lives and properties.

“Illegal connections are a threat to public safety which is why Meralco proactively campaigns against these so-called jumpers. We encourage customers to immediately report these to us and we will ensure prompt action on our part,” said Meralco Vice President and Corporate Communications Head Joe R. Zaldarriaga.

Incidents of illegal service connections may be reported through Meralco’s 24/7 hotline 16211 or 8631-1111 and its official social media accounts on Facebook and X.
