Hannah Bahng releases new single ‘what never lived’

Australian singer-songwriter Hannah Bahng released her poignant new single, “what never lived,” through her independent label, Bahng Entertainment.

The track, a haunting reflection on mourning a relationship that never truly existed, arrives alongside a powerfully evocative music video directed and produced by Hannah herself.

Written, composed, and produced by Hannah and her longtime collaborator Andrew Luce (iann dior, Role Model, Lil Nas X), “what never lived” blends raw emotion with an alternative edge.

It was born on Hannah’s piano, but it was the immediate desire to infuse it with a powerful guitar-driven sound that truly captured the track’s essence. With lyrics like “Sometimes I think about what we could’ve been/The magic of the past still haunts me within/You said it was a forever thing, not a fling/You said that you could love me,” the song delves into the emotional complexities of navigating a modern-day situationship.

Its music video showcases Hannah portraying an emotional fallout after catching another girl with the guy she thought she was seeing, reflecting the song's themes of longing and disillusionment. A tense fight scene during the guitar bridge builds to a cathartic finale, where Hannah burns a Polaroid of the two of them and embraces the freedom of moving on, surrounded by her friends.

The track made its live debut during Hannah’s first-ever US tour in December, where she performed for enthusiastic crowds in Dallas, Houston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The entire tour sold out in minutes, resulting in venues being upgraded and additional shows being added.

The song follows the release of Hannah’s debut record, The Abysmal EP (May 2024), an emotionally raw exploration of self-discovery and the end of her teen years.

Blues—Hannah's dedicated fanbase—can catch her live in March as she embarks on her home-country tour in Australia.

Tickets start at $69.90 and are available at FrontierTouring.com.
