Jojo Mendrez, dubbed the “Revival King,” has been making waves online with his rendition of the late Julie Vega's hit song "Somewhere in My Past," released by Star Music.

Jojo's version has been praised by many iconic celebrities such as Superstar and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor, Diamond Star Maricel Soriano, actress and former co-star of Julie in "Flor De Liza" Janice De Belen, Snooky Serna and Claudine Barretto.

All shared the same reaction, saying that he did a beautiful rendition of the song that had a memorable impact on anyone listening. Some were even emotional when they heard his version because it would bring back many memories.

Jojo's version of "Somewhere in My Past" has already gained 35 million views across social media networks, including video reactions from famous influencers and acclaimed artists in the entertainment industry.

Jojo didn't have an easy life. When he was young, he used to dry and count walis tingting under the sun's heat. He was even forced to evacuate where they lived because their relatives didn't want them to stay there anymore. There were times he would question his purpose in life and why they were struggling because of poverty.

The song "Somewhere in My Past" had a massive impact on him back then. The first time he heard it was when Julie sang it live via GMA Supershow featuring Julie Special, and he was watching it on TV in their rented apartment in Lucena.

He was a big fan of Julie. They would watch her shows often, and then all of a sudden, it was announced that she passed away. He was deeply shocked and affected because, at a young age, she died, and millions of Filipino fans felt a significant loss back then.

Mon del Rosario, composer of "Somewhere in My Past," conducted an audition to whom the song shall grant the remake. Out of several music artists who auditioned, Jojo was chosen.

Jojo felt grateful and honored to finally bring the iconic song back to the mainstream so that more people, especially the new generation, can appreciate the beautiful music.

The Revival King truly enjoyed working on this song since he also loves music. "Ako ay kumakanta hindi para kumita ng pera. Ang pagkanta ko ay para makapag-bigay ng inspirasyon sa lahat. (I sing not to make money. My singing is to inspire everyone)."

Jojo's music video for "Somewhere In My Past" is set to be released soon. He is gearing up to meet more of his Jojonatics in the future to thank them for their support.
