BACOLOD CITY – This city recorded a 355.9 percent increase in dengue cases from January to December last year with a total of 2,617 compared to 574 in 2023.

The City Health Office said seven persons died in 2024, four more than 2023 with only three.
Barangay Taculing had 274 cases, Mansilingan, 216; Estefania, 188; Bata, 182; Villamonte, 159; Tangub, 142; Mandalagan, 138; Alijis, 133; Singcang-Airport, 126; Sum-ag, 116; Banago, 100; Cabug and Vista Alegre, 97 each, and Granada, 92.
For pediatric cases, 913 were male and 839 were female, with age ranging from less than one-year-old to 19-years-old. Most of the patients in this category were age one- to 10-years-old.
Casualties of probable dengue were reported in Barangays Estefania, Sum-ag, Villamonte, and Barangay 16, while three suspected cases were recorded in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Felisa, and Barangay 26 last year.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the CHO, reiterated to the public to practice the 4S strategy against dengue – Search and Destroy mosquito breeding areas, Seek early consultation, Self-protection, and Support spraying and fogging in hotspot areas.
Last year, the CHO urged barangays here to reactivate the 4 o’clock habit of cleaning the surroundings to combat dengue in the community.
