Albay Rep Edcel Lagman passes away at 82

Albay 1st district Representative and Liberal Party (LP) President Edcel Lagman has passed away. 

This was confirmed by his daughter, Tabaco City, Albay Mayor Krisel Lagman, in a statement sent to House of Representatives reporters just before 7 p.m. Thursday. 

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, " Mayor Lagman said. 

Rep. Lagman was 82. He died at exactly 5:01 p.m. Thursday afternoon due to cardiac arrest. 

"At his final peaceful moments, he was surrounded by all his children, sisters, and family members," Mayor Lagman said. 

"He left this world the way he lived his life – with integrity, compassion, and fearlessness. He fought until the end with the dogged determination, tenacity, and unshakable hopefulness that defined all that he stood for," she said. 

"He will be remembered and honored by his family, friends, and colleagues as a remarkable and generous father; a warm, thoughtful and loving brother, uncle and lolo; a true and loyal friend; and an upright, principled, and unwavering advocate of human rights and the rule of law," she added. 
Rep. Lagman, a human rights lawyer, took pride is his designation as an "independent minority" solon in the 19th Congress. 

He was elected president of the erstwhile ruling LP in September 2022. 

Rep. Lagman actively defended his pet measure, the Absolute Divorce Bill, during the early part of 2024. He reportedly fell ill during the latter part of the year, although this was never confirmed by his family. 
"He will live on in our hearts and we will continue to honor his memory by living our lives the way that would make him proud," Mayor Lagman said.
