More than half of adult Filipinos are satisfied with the Marcos administration, according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
As of Dec. 12 to 18, SWS found that 59 percent of adult Filipinos are satisfied; 17 percent are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, and 23 percent are dissatisfied with the general performance of the current national administration.
The net satisfaction rating of +36 (% satisfied minus % dissatisfied) was classified by SWS as “good.”
SWS noted that this is the same as in September 2024, but down by four points from a good +40 in June 2024, following a sharp decline from very good +52 in December 2023 to moderate +29 in March 2024.
Out of 17 specific performance subjects rated, SWS noted that the net satisfaction ratings of the national administration were “Very Good” on five subjects, “Good” on seven subjects, “Moderate” on one subject, “Neutral” on three subjects, and “Poor” on one subject.
SWS noted that the national administration’s net satisfaction rating was “very good” on helping victims of disasters (+65), improving the quality of children's education (+60), helping the poor (+57), creating policies that will generate job opportunities (+51), and developing science and technology (+51).
The current administration was also rated “good” on implementing housing programs for the poor (+49), ensuring food security (+46), ensuring an efficient public transportation system (+45), being prepared for strong typhoons (+44), preparing for problems caused by climate change (+38), telling the truth to the people (+34), and defending Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (+32).
Meanwhile, it was “moderate” in ensuring that no family will ever be hungry or have nothing to eat (+26).
The administration was rated “neutral” when it comes to fighting crimes that victimize ordinary citizens, such as killings, holdups, robberies, physical violence, etc. (+4), ensuring that oil companies do not take advantage of oil prices (-2), and eradicating graft and corruption (-3).
Meanwhile, the Marcos administration was rated “poor” when it comes to fighting inflation (-12).
“The satisfaction rating of the general performance of the National Administration is based on a single question and is not an average of answers to separate questions on specific subjects,” SWS said.
“The general rating is repeated every quarter, whereas only a core of the particular subject ratings is repeated,” SWS explained. “Subjects are included or excluded depending on their contemporary salience,” it added.
SWS noted that compared to the last survey, the net satisfaction ratings of the national administration “were better” on seven out of 17 subjects, while it declined in one subject.
Compared to September 2024, SWS said the net satisfaction with the national administration “improved” for preparing for problems caused by climate change, up by 13 points from moderate +25, being prepared for strong typhoons, up by 11 points from good +33, defending Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea, up by 7 points from moderate +25, creating policies that will generate job opportunities, up by 7 points from good +44, ensuring food security, up by 7 points from good +39, helping the poor, up by 6 points from very good +51, and ensuring an efficient public transportation system, up by 6 points from good +39.
However, SWS noted that the current administration “fell” in telling the truth, down by seven points from a good +41 in March 2024.
SWS said that for the remaining nine subjects, the net satisfaction with the national administration “either stayed the same or rose by 1 to 5 points” from September 2024.
Meanwhile, SWS noted that the net satisfaction with the national administration was “Good” in the Visayas, Balance Luzon, and Metro Manila, and “Moderate” in Mindanao.
As of December 2024, SWS said the net satisfaction with the national administration was highest in Balance Luzon and the Visayas, with +44 each, followed by Metro Manila with +31, and Mindanao with +16.
“The National Administration’s steady net satisfaction rating from September 2024 to December 2024 was due to an increase in the Visayas, combined with a decline in Mindanao and small changes in Balance Luzon and Metro Manila,” SWS said.
Compared to September 2024, SWS said the net satisfaction with the national administration rose by 13 points in the Visayas, up from good +31 to good +44.
“However, it fell by 7 points in Mindanao, down from moderate +23 to moderate +16, while it hardly changed in Balance Luzon, from good +46 to good +44, and Metro Manila, from good +32 to good +31,” SWS said.
Meanwhile, SWS said the net satisfaction “barely changed at good levels in rural areas, from +42 to +39, and urban areas, from +31 to +33.”
Moreover, SWS noted that the current administration’s net satisfaction stayed “good” among women, “hardly moving” from +33 to +36, and among men, “down slightly” from +39 to +35.
Applying census weights and correctly rounded, SWS said 13 percent of the respondents are from Metro Manila, 45 percent from Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila), 19 percent from the Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
SWS said 53 percent are from urban areas and 47 percent are from rural areas.
The Fourth Quarter 2024 Social Weather Survey was conducted in December using face-to-face interviews of 2,160 adults.
